Why Aging at UMB

Choose a program taught by nationally recognized, interprofessional faculty. This provides you with a dynamic learning environment, access to expertise and networking opportunities, and exposure to innovation and evidence-based curriculum.

Our Aging, Gerontology and Palliative Care programs have been designed to meet the educational needs of individuals who are currently working or who wish to work in hospice and palliative care and want to gain a deeper understanding of the physical, psychological, spiritual and social needs of patients and families affected by aging and serious illness. Continuing education credits and certifications are available for Thanatology graduates.

The School of Graduate Studies is also home to the Geriatrics & Gerontology Education and Research (GGEAR) program. Educational programs developed by GGEAR and its partners include training modules through Geri-ED, such as the Age Friendly Certificate of Achievement program, and interprofessional training opportunities including the Geriatric Assessment Interdisciplinary Team (GAIT) program in which students learn and work collaboratively in interprofessional settings.

Outside of our academic programs, UMB can prepare you with the knowledge and skills to effectively work with and on behalf of older adults and their families and make a difference in an aging society.
