Forensic Medicine, Master's

The Master of Science (MS) in Forensic Medicine is a full time, non-thesis, 18 month graduate degree program that prepares students for careers in forensic medicine. Students will participate in classroom and online lectures, case discussions and laboratory training. The curriculum will focus on forensic pathology, general pathology, forensic autopsy, medico-legal death investigation, forensic toxicology, forensic radiology, forensic odontology and forensic anthropology. The State of Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the University of Maryland, Baltimore offer this program collaboratively giving students the opportunity to study in the nation’s best medical examination facilities under the guidance of licensed and board certified forensic pathologists. Graduates will be prepared for a number of job opportunities such as medicolegal death investigation, forensic toxicology, working in police organizations, such as crime labs, prosecutors’ offices, or departments of forensic sciences of universities. Alternatively, the MS will prepare for medical school and specialization in forensic pathology. In addition to the 30 credit full program, a dual degree MS-JM is offered with the China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL). Through a sharing of credits between the two universities, students will earn a Master's of Science from UMB and a Juris Masters from CUPL. The University of Maryland, Baltimore is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where most Forensic Medicine core courses are conducted, is accredited by the National Association of Medical Examiners.
