This course is designed to explore the process of creating valuable intellectual property (IP) within a research institution and preparing it for license to a commercial venture. Topics such as forms of IP; the protection, ownership, and management of IP; the value of technology transfer; and, the license agreement are elements of this course. This is an 8 week course, primarily asynchronous, that consists of faculty lecture, interviews with subject matter experts, assigned readings, and student analysis of an actual piece of IP.

This course is designed to explore the process of creating a startup venture around a piece of intellectual property (IP) licensed from a research institution. Topics such as the characteristics of attractive IP; venture creation and the role of the researcher; stage-appropriate forms of funding; the business plan; and, growth planning are elements of this course. This is an 8 week course, primarily asynchronous, that consists of faculty lecture, interviews with subject matter experts, assigned readings, and student analysis of an actual startup venture.
This course is designed to explore the process of growing and creating enterprise value in a startup venture based upon intellectual property (IP) licensed from a research institution. Topics such as the regulatory landscape; stage-appropriate forms of funding; team building and growth management; and, preparing to monetize the venture are elements of this course. This is an 8 week course, primarily asynchronous, that consists of faculty lecture, interviews with subject matter experts, assigned readings, student analysis of an actual mature venture, and preparation of a monetization strategy.
This course is designed to explore the process of monetizing a startup venture based upon intellectual property (IP) licensed from a research institution. Topics such as monetization pathways; prerequisites to exit and forms of exit; strategic partner and acquiror motivations; and, deal structure and post-deal obligations are elements of this course. This is an 8 week course, primarily asynchronous, that consists of faculty lecture, interviews with subject matter experts, assigned readings, student analysis of an actual mature venture’s monetization pathway.
