Bio
Dr. Memiah is a Professor of Global Health at the University of Maryland School of Graduate Studies and serves as the Program Director for the Implementation Science and Global Monitoring & Evaluation graduate programs.
Previously, Dr. Memiah was an Associate Professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and served as Director for Quality Improvement at CIHEB. He is also a fellow in the NIH-funded HIV Intervention Science Training Program (HISTP). His areas of expertise include Gender-Based Violence, Continuous Quality Improvement, and Adolescent Health. Dr. Memiah has played a key role in developing over 15 national health policies across six countries, including the HIV/TB Sustainability Roadmaps globally, the National HIV Strategic Plan for Eswatini, and the National Operational Plan for Lesotho. He has spearheaded initiatives such as the Private Sector Engagement for HIV/STI Prevention and the Elimination of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV and Syphilis Strategic Frameworks.
As a technical expert, Dr. Memiah actively participates in various technical working groups across different countries, focusing on areas such as prevention, key and vulnerable populations, adolescents, and children. As the principal consultant, Dr. Memiah is currently leading the revision of the National Integrated Supportive Supervision Guideline and integrated supervision checklists for Primary Health Care in Tanzania and Zanzibar. His expertise in Implementation Science, Monitoring, and Evaluation has been applied to global health organizations such as Maestral International and AMREF.
Dr. Memiah's international collaborations include partnerships with Ministries of Health, the Global Fund, USAID, CDC, UNAIDS, UNICEF, and the Norwegian Lutheran Mission. He has worked in over 15 countries, including Botswana, Ethiopia, Eswatini, Guyana, Haiti, Kenya, Lesotho, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Somaliland, Uganda, Tanzania, the USA, and Zambia.
As a Principal Investigator, Dr. Memiah has led significant studies, including the REACH initiative (Reaching and Engaging Adolescents and Young Adults for Care Continuum in Health Project), a technology-driven health study in Kenya targeting young people. Equally important is his commitment to developing future professionals, having mentored numerous doctoral students, developed impactful curricula, and trained thousands of healthcare professionals.
Dr. Memiah's commitment to public health is evident in his over 100 peer-reviewed publications and several awards for mentoring and research excellence. His work leverages innovation, technology, human-centered design, policy refinement, and performance metrics to enhance public health practices, leadership, and management. With over 20 years of experience in teaching, service, and research, Dr. Memiah actively shapes public health practices globally, driving impactful change and fostering sustainable health outcomes.
