Assistant Professor, UMB Physician Assistant Program
Dr. Riekers graduated from the (former) Essex Community College Physician Assistant Program in 1998. She then earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore County in 1995. In 2004, she completed her Master of Physician Assistant Studies degree from the University of Nebraska. Dr. Riekers then went on to earn her Doctor of Medical Science degree from the University of Lynchburg in 2022. She has published in the JAAPA medical journal, Surgical PA journal, and has done poster presentations on her original research at the National Society of Hospital Medicine Conference.
Dr. Riekers began her clinical practice as a Physician Assistant in gynecologic oncology, later becoming lead PA for the inpatient hospitalist service where she led twelve PA colleagues in caring for medical and surgical patients. She then joined the neurosurgery team which became her passion. Dr. Riekers worked as part of the inpatient neurosurgical team at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She worked closely with attending physicians, residents and students. She has acted as a clinical preceptor during her entire career. Before joining the UMB PA Program she has spent the last three and a half years in PA education in the role of Clinical Director.
Dr. Riekers, outside of work, enjoys boating with her family and playing with her two dogs. She is also an avid runner and enjoys training for marathons.
