The fellowship begins each year in July. Fellows are expected to commit about 15-20 hours per month to program activities.

Yes, all fellows are required to travel to Baltimore for the Summer Institute and the Spring Showcase.

The Sumer Institute is where you’ll meet the program’s principal investigators (PIs), your mentors, and other fellows. It’s a chance to build connections and get started on your work for the year.

At the Spring Showcase, held near the end of the fellowship, you’ll present what you’ve accomplished over the previous 10 months and have opportunities to network with program staff, mentors, and other attendees.

Yes, we have funds available for fellows to create interactive communication materials as part of the program. We also offer additional funding to support alums after they complete the program.

ESCAAR fellows should consult with their research coordinators and the intellectual property professionals at their home institution prior to attending. For additional information, email escaar@umaryland.edu.

Yes, we’re developing digital badges that reflect what participants learn and accomplish in the program. Fellows can add these badges to their resumes, CVs, and online profiles such as LinkedIn.

ESCAAR does not place any restrictions on fellows seeking external funding or fellowships during the program. However, if you are a pre-doctoral student, you should check with your home institution to make sure you meet their guidelines for holding multiple awards or sources of support.
